 Screen Reading Software

For students who are blind, using a screen reading program allows them to complete most computing activities. Screen reading software enables the computer to read aloud all text displayed on the monitor including text in the menus. In other words, screen reading software figures out what is on the screen and sends information to the text-to-speech component of the program or to a braille display. The most commonly used screen readers are JAWS (Freedom Scientific) and Window-Eyes (GW Micro).

Screen reading software is most commonly used for students who are blind or have visual impairments.
